Have Your Say On City’s Sustainability Strategy
Have Your Say On City’s Sustainability Strategy
27 APRIL, 2012 For Immediate Release
Efficient energy use, enhancing the natural environment and reducing resource use are three of the key aspects of Hamilton’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy, which is currently up for review.
The current strategy was set in 2008, and is one of a number being reassessed this year. Hamilton City Council, one of a number of partner organisations involved with the strategy, is seeking the public’s input into what the strategy should include.
The Environmental Sustainability Strategy will set out key principles to help shape Hamilton as it continues to go through change over the next five years. Councillor Daphne Bell, Chair of Council’s Sustainability Working Group, encourages individuals, community groups and businesses to be part of developing Hamilton’s Environmental Sustainability Strategy.
“Council’s vision for the city places a lot of emphasis on Hamilton’s natural environment, and growing the city in a sustainable way,” Cr Bell says. “The Environmental Sustainability Strategy is an important aspect of that.” Members of the public and organisation representatives are invited to participate in a discussion on the strategy at Council’s ground floor reception lounge from 5.30pm on 8 May. If you wish to offer your views, but can not attend the meeting, you can email comments to strategy@hcc.govt.nz.
