All Blacks’ Conditioning Coach to Address Otago Symposium

All Blacks’ Physical Conditioning Coach to Address Otago Symposium

Key members of the Otago sporting community will gather to hear from two of the experts who work most closely with the world champions of rugby, when they attend a physical conditioning symposium at Otago Polytechnic this week.

The keynote speaker at the Applied High Performance Physical Conditioning Symposium is All Blacks’ Physical Conditioning Coach, Dr Nicholas Gill. He will address attendees about the importance of athletic preparation, which he refers to as the ‘bricks and mortar’ of high performance sport. All Blacks’ Physiotherapist, Peter Gallagher will also speak at the symposium, which has been organised by the Otago Institute of Sport and Adventure at Otago Polytechnic.

One of the Institute’s programme managers, Matthew Blair - who is also an International Rugby Board Referee and Pacific Island Physical Conditioning Advisor - will be lending his expertise to the event as well. “It’s aimed at Otago sports professionals and students who are interested in the role physical conditioning plays in elite sports performance. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion as well – it’s beneficial for sports professionals to consider differing advancements and approaches in the physical conditioning field and share their experiences.”

Attendees include staff from Sport Otago, Southern Steel coaching and physical conditioning teams, High Performance Sport New Zealand staff, and lecturers and students from the Otago Institute of Sport and Adventure and the University of Otago.
