New Lift Will Provide More Choice for Disabled

New Lift Will Provide More Choice for Palmerston North Residents With Disabilities

A new lift has been fitted at the Lido Aquatic Centre to improve access to the pools for residents living with disabilities.

The new mobile disability hoist will allow those with disabilities to choose which pool they want to swim in and improve ease of access to and from the pools

Last year an occupational therapist approached the Palmerston North City Council asking for it to investigate adding a mobile hoist to make entry and exit into the pool easier for both caregivers and clients.

The previous hoist is at the end of its working life so the Council successfully applied to the Central Energy Trust Board in November 2011 for a grant to purchase the lift and Council staff installed the lift at the pools.
