Ngatuhoa Lodge

45th anniversary Open Day
Saturday 26 May 2012

Ngatuhoa Lodge in Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park has been the perfect place for school, groups and families to experience outdoor adventure and nature at its best.

On Saturday 26 May 2012, from 10am to 4.30pm the Lodge is holding an Open Day for everyone to come and enjoy, at no cost.

The Open Day is designed to give the public an opportunity to experience what hundred’s of school kids and others have enjoyed over the last 45 years by, flying on the flying fox, abseiling, completing the confidence course, walking the magnificent bush walks and enjoying the forest flora and fauna.

Ngatuhoa Lodge is run by the Ngatuhoa Lodge Outdoor Education Society and results from the dream and vision of William (Bill) Kennedy. In 1967, Bill Kennedy wanted to build an adventure school similar to Outward Bound. With support from the NZ Forest Service, donations of time and materials, the Ngatuhoa Lodge was officially opened in March 1970.

Ngatuhoa Lodge can accommodate up to 50 people in four 8-bunk rooms, one 4-bunk room, one 14-bunk room plus more at a nearby campsite. The building is heated.

Outdoor activities offered include hikes and walks, glow worms, instructor led activities like abseiling, kayaking and orienteering and team and confidence-building activities and water fun.

You are invited to attend the Open Day at Ngatuhoa Lodge, Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park, Omanawa Road off SH 29, Tauranga. Turn left off SH 29 and follow the signs to get to Ngatuhoa Lodge
