Projects from across the Region to receive grants funding
Eight community projects from across the
Horizons Region are to receive grants funding under Horizons
Regional Council’s new community grants programme.
The
programme was established to support community groups,
schools, early childhood centres and iwi/hapu groups, with
projects that enhance the region and encourage more people
to engage with the natural environment. $20,000 was up for
grabs, with the council receiving requests totaling over
$220,000.
“We had an exceptional response to our first
funding round which was extremely pleasing. It’s great to
see that so many groups are involved in interesting and
innovative projects that will encourage our communities to
make the most of all our Region has to offer”, says
Horizons media and communications manager, Caroline Rowe.
“To whittle applications down to the final eight was certainly a challenge. Council has included funding for community grants annually as part of the Draft Long-term Plan. If this is approved applications will open again in September”.
