Teens Encouraged to Register for Multisport Competition

Teens Encouraged to Register for Youth Week Multisport Competition This Weekend

ROTORUA 22.05.12:  Rotorua District Council (RDC) is encouraging local teens to register for its Youth Week multisport competition this weekend.

The Rotorua District Youth Council-organised event is being held at Western Heights High School on Sunday [27 May] from 12.30pm to 4pm, and offers a variety of sports for 13 to 18 year olds including basketball, volleyball, soapy soccer, touch, and tug-o-war.

RDC youth projects officer Jill Campbell says cash prizes of $300 for first placegetters, $200 for second, $100 for third, and heaps of spot prizes are up for grabs in the final Youth Week event.

“Our youth council organised this multisport competition to celebrate Youth Week and to have activities of all kinds available for young local people. It’s a fantastic day for teens to get active, have fun, and even be in to win some prize money.”

Teams are 6 to 8 players and need to register by 5pm on Thursday [24 May], and each team must have two female players.

Mrs Campbell says the youth council received funding from Youth Town to help make the multisport day an affordable and enjoyable event.

“It costs $20 per team to enter, which averages out at just two or three dollars a person. That’s excellent value for young people to be able to participate in a fun-filled day like this.”

Registration forms are available from local high schools and Rotorua Youth Centre or can downloaded from rotaz.co.nz. Completed forms can then be delivered to Rotorua District Council Customer Centre or handed to a youth councillor at school.
