‘Spray Park’ favoured for McKenzie Pool design

Final concept plans for the refurbishment of McKenzie Pool at Petone will be presented to the Petone Community Board on Monday 28 May with the design to include a children’s ‘Spray Park’.

Over the past two months council has sought public feedback on three proposed designs.

“We received 358 responses from the community with 45% in favour of Option 2”, said Leisure Active Manager for Hutt City Council, Marcus Sherwood.

“This option provides for a 25m lap pool, a new learner’s and toddlers pool and an area for an interactive play feature called a Spray Park.”

A Spray Park is a zero depth play area with water fountains and play features. Other suggestions were received through the consultation process and where practical these will be incorporated into the final design.

Mayor Ray Wallace said the public feedback and participation in this process has been fantastic.

“I am confident we will soon have a wonderful pool complex that everyone can enjoy.”
