Rare and historic papers available online

The latest rare and historic New Zealand newspapers to be digitised and added to the Papers Past website include Manawatu Standard issues from 1906 to 1910 and Manawatu Times from 1906 to 1908.

It has been a collaborative project between the Palmerston North City Council and the National Library of New Zealand and is part of the National Library’s on-going digitisation programme.

Palmerston North City Archivist Lesley Courtney says that having access to these papers online makes them available to so many more people.

“The biggest benefit is that you can enter a person’s name, an event, a business or a location and bring up all manner of articles, notices or advertisements as they appeared in the paper at the time.”

The newspapers can be accessed through National Library’s paperspast.natlib.govt.nz or visit the New Zealand Pacific zone of the City Library.
