Council wants your opinion on Community Representation

HUTT CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE

19 June 2012

Council wants your opinion on Community Representation

Hutt City Council is seeking feedback on what type of second level representation their communities would like.

Currently there are three Community Boards and four Community (Ward) Committees. Community Boards are elected by their community and Community Committees are established as committees of Council

Community Committees and Boards are responsible for assessing the community requirements and advocating to council on behalf of that community.

The three options suggested are:

Status Quo: Retain the current three Community Boards and four Community Committees

Seven Community Boards: These boards would be elected by their community of interest

Disestablish Community Boards

The survey starts today and will close at 5pm on Tuesday 3 July.

Once the survey has been completed, council will develop a draft proposal in August this year for the community to consider. The community then has one month to make submissions on this proposal. .

To view the three options and to complete the survey, go to the council website: http://www.huttcity.govt.nz/communityrepresentation
