Community drop-in sessions to help plan the rebuild of Edgeware Village

Christchurch City Council will launch workshops and community drop-in sessions next week for Edgeware Village as part of their Suburban Centres Programme.

A master plan will be developed for Edgeware Village with input from community leaders, building and business owners, government agencies, other stakeholders and interest groups and local residents.

Programme Manager, Healthy Environment Jenny Ridgen says the workshops and community drop-in sessions mark an important milestone for the community and a step toward a process to rebuilding the quake-damaged Edgeware shopping centre.

"Master plans provide a framework for the community on how their centre may look, feel and function. Communities can use the plan to set goals and prioritise what they want to work on or develop. This will in turn, enable the Council to make decisions based on community priorities.

"The community drop-in sessions will provide an opportunity for people to identify issues, concerns and aspirations for their centre. People are encouraged to drop-in, anytime, and share their ideas. Council staff will be on hand to answer questions," she says.

Mayor Bob Parker says this is very welcome news for Edgeware residents, business and building owners who have been looking forward to this master plan getting underway.

"Involvement from the community will be crucial and I would therefore encourage locals and other interested parties to get involved - all ideas are welcomed," he says.
