Wellington Zoo telling a
new STQRY
Wellington Zoo has
teamed up with STQRY, an innovative Wellington based
start-up, to provide a unique new layer of engagement for
visitors to the Zoo.
STQRY (pronounced ‘story’) have developed a free mobile phone application, which uses QR codes to provide access to images, video, and more detailed information related to visitor attractions. Wellington Zoo is the first zoo to be featured on the app, which will go live this Friday.
“We’re really excited about this new opportunity to help our visitors explore and engage with the Zoo,” said Visitor Experience Manager, Oli du Bern. “Our visitors are tech savvy people, and STQRY gives them the opportunity to discover more about our Zoo animals and places on the go.”
From distinguishing animals from one another to information on how best to spot some animals in their exhibits, the STQRY app will create unique and intimate visitor experiences.
“For example, if you’re looking at our lovely Cheetah, Charlie and Delta, you’ll be able to find tips on how to tell them apart,” said du Bern. “And if you’re interested in getting closer to them, you’ll be able to see how easy it is to book in for a Close Encounter.”
“It’s about accessing the story behind what fascinates you at the Zoo,” du Bern explained. “The app is designed to enhance visitor experience, as they can access another level of information. They can pick and choose the animals they want to find out more about, so it’s a more customised experience. “
“We’re making full use of media now available out in the Zoo, like video and online resources. Visitors will be able to share their experiences with their friends in real time too, with easy linking to social media such as Facebook and Twitter.”
“As usage increases, we will be able to provide real time information,” du Bern shared. “For instance, if a particular animal is in for treatment at The Nest Te Kōhanga that day, our Keepers will be able to pop a note on STQRY explaining the situation.”
With signage updated around the Zoo, visitors will be given the information about how to download and use the app as they come through. The app is available for free download from the Android and Apple app stores.
“We’re keen to see how visitors engage with this app and how it can add to their experience at the Zoo,” said du Bern. “STQRY have created a great product, and we’re proud to be the first zoo to make use of it.”
