Good Progress on New Manukau Kartsport Complex
Good progress is being made regarding the establishment of an international standard KartSport complex at Prices Road, Manukau near Auckland International Airport.
The 1200m circuit, built to CIK-FIA specifications, will be the primary tenant of the new Colin Dale Motorsport Park which will also include areas for off road, motocross and BMX racing.
Three current Auckland-based clubs, KartSport Mt Wellington, KartSport Auckland and Formula S KartSport, are working together on the project which will ultimately see a rationalisation of kart track facilities in Auckland. To progress the project KartSport SuperCity has been registered as an Incorporated Society and so far $0.5 million of the estimated $2.5 million project cost has been raised and fund raising activity is about to step up a gear.
Project leaders Ian Hodgson and Robert Cunningham note that current KartSport facilities in Auckland now lag well behind those in other regions around New Zealand. This new facility will bring Auckland up to date, matching similar facilities around the world, and will be capable of hosting CIK-FIA international events.
As well as hosting KartSport events the facility will be used for youth driver training and related activities. Construction is expected to commence in October 2012.
KartSport is an exciting and affordable form of motorsport enjoyed by competitors from ages six to 66 years. With strong family participation KartSport teaches young people driving and life skills which enhance their open road skills and general development.
KartSport is also the motorsport choice for a growing number of 'masters' aged competitors who enjoy the competitive racing together with an active club social environment.
