PAK’nSAVE supermarket decision delights developer

July 10 2012

An Environment Court decision to grant resource consent for a PAK’nSAVE supermarket has “delighted” one of Queenstown’s largest developers, Porter Group Limited.

In response to community requests, Porter Group director Alastair Porter said his company had worked with Foodstuffs for many years to establish a PAK’nSAVE supermarket in the wider Queenstown area.

PAK’nSAVE owners Foodstuffs has today (July 10) been granted consent to build on land owned by Shotover Park Limited within the Frankton flats area alongside Glenda Drive.

“We’re just delighted that a decision has been made that will deliver cheaper groceries and more choice to the Queenstown community,” said Mr Porter.

“This is about affordable groceries for members of our community, and will be a $30 million investment at a time when business development is seen as relatively stagnant.

“In the short-term it will provide construction work for local companies, and ultimately 250 permanent jobs for the district.”

Mr Porter said it was “very appropriate” that access to PAK’nSAVE would be from the proposed Eastern Access Road linking Shotover Park and Remarkables Park.

“This will make it one of the most important arterial roads in Queenstown,” he said.

Mr Porter hoped the supermarket would now be established “as soon as possible” to service the community.
