Rotorua Tourism Committee Seeking New
Member
(L-R) RDC chief executive Peter Guerin and Rotorua Tourism Committee chair Tony Marks.
ROTORUA 13.07.12: Rotorua
District Council (RDC) is looking to appoint a new member to
the Rotorua Tourism Committee (RTC) to help drive the
city’s future tourism growth.
The council is inviting applicants with a comprehensive understanding of the local and national tourism industries to put their names forward.
Council chief executive Peter Guerin explained that the tourism committee provides leadership and support for the council and for the regional tourism organisation, Destination Rotorua Marketing.
He said committee members bring innovative ideas and effective strategic thinking to the table to help Rotorua build on its position as one of New Zealand's premier tourism destinations.
Rotorua Tourism Committee chairman Tony Marks said the committee was looking for someone with previous boardroom experience, analytical and operational competencies, good communication skills and a real passion for Rotorua.
“If you’ve also got a solid understanding of tourism marketing, and knowledge of tourism distribution channels and visitor industry sectors, then we want to hear from you,” said Mr Marks.
The vacancy on the tourism committee follows the stepping down of New Zealand Maori Arts & Craft Institute's Karl Johnstone. Mr Marks acknowledged Mr Johnstone’s valuable contribution to the committee, and thanked him for sharing his extensive knowledge of tourism and culture and for bringing an innovative approach to the table.
Peter Guerin said applications close on 27 July, and an appointment panel would then be short listing applicants and conducting interviews. He expected the new appointee to be in place in early August.
Applications require a CV and a letter outlining the candidate’s skills for the role. They should be marked ‘Tourism Committee - private and confidential’, and delivered or posted to the Chief Executive, Rotorua District Council, Private Bag 3029, Rotorua Mail Centre, Rotorua 3046. Applications can also be emailed to peter.guerin@rdc.govt.nz.
