Our photo of the week "Aloali'i, Saleapaga, Samoa" is by award-winning New Zealand photographer Brett Phibbs.
Brett has spent more than half his life as a newspaper photographer, including 19 years with the NZ Herald, and in that time he’s covered three Olympic Games, five Commonwealth Games, three Rugby World Cups, two America’s Cups and hundreds of news assignments.

See esteemed Maori artists in action & purchase their works. The day also includes weaving demonstrations, plant identification & discussion of medicinal properties, a taonga puoro performance, taakaro, and a series of poetry readings.

LATE: GLUTTONY


This LATE we explore the sin most likely to leave your mouth watering – gluttony. Join the PM’s science advisor Professor Sir Peter Gluckman; academic and weight loss industry-critic Dr Andrew Dickson, who featured in the cover story for The Listener; and one of New Zealand’s best known authorities on food and Masterchef judge – Ray McVinnie, as they debate the virtues and vices of our relationships with food.
Entertainment features a gluttony-inspired performance from choreographer Shona McCullagh and dancer Hannah Tasker-Poland followed by a live performance from Princess Chelsea, who recently featured in The Guardian's 'New Band of the Day'.

HOCHSTETTER LECTURE WITH MIKE ISAAC


“How wet did it get and who cares anyway? Did New Zealand drown?”

Join Mike Isaac, geologist at GNS Science who will discuss paleogeo-graphy, biostratigraphy, absolute dating, fossils, petrography and rates of change – whether Zealandia was or was not totally submerged has major implications for the origins of our native flora and fauna (Gondwana relicts or not?)
Presented by the Auckland Museum Institute.
