River to peak at 10.5 metres
Horizons Regional Council emergency management staff will continue to monitor river levels through the night with the Whanganui River expected to peak at Pipiriki at 10.45pm.
The peak of 10.5 metres is lower than originally forecast and is expected to pass freely under the Wanganui town bridge tomorrow morning.
Horizons emergency manager Shane Bayley says “we will continue to work closely with the Wanganui District Council to monitor river levels and keep an eye on things throughout the night”.
Motorists are being advised to take care while driving and check the AA’s website, http://maps.aa.co.nz/traffic/roadwatch for information on road closures.
Horizons will continue to monitor the situation and update the public if the situation changes.
