Dunedin’s Medical Mystery Tour

The Chair of Neurosurgery fundraising campaign and the Otago Heritage Bus Society are assembling a Medical Mystery Tour for Saturday 21st July 2012. The buses including the Otago Heritage Bus Society’s newest acquisition prototype Mount Cook Denning 501 and Leyland Leopard 194 supporting its new “old” livery, will leave from the Dunedin Railway Station at 1:30pm and spend the next 3 hours exploring a few of the many figurative and literal twists and turns in Dunedin's medical history.

The trip will include three stops to visit places not normally open to the public and on-board experts will explain the significance of the places we pass along the way, as well as sharing a few lighter moments as the more humorous side is explored. It wouldn't be a Mystery Tour if we gave too much away but a highlight will be a rare chance to visit the Medical School's Anatomy Museum. This is a somewhat somber but fascinating place to visit, and allows a greater understanding to be gained of conditions, ailments and organs that we often hear about but only have a shallow knowledge. This trip has been arranged in conjunction with the Otago University and is a unique tour for a unique cause.
