Slips and Flooding Affect Roads in Waikato District
Heavy rain over the past few days has led to landslips and surface flooding on a number of roads in the Waikato district.
The worst affected is Te Puroa road south-west of Ngaruawahia, which was blocked by a slip on Tuesday night. Approximately 20 houses on the no-exit road were cut off to vehicles, with one lane re-opened to traffic at about 12 o’clock today. It is likely to be another couple of days before the slip on Te Puroa Road is fully cleared.
Other roads around the district affected by slips
and flooding:
• Whangamarino Road – Down to one lane
due to a slip south of Springhill Road.
• Scotsman
Valley Road – Flooding has closed one lane approx 3km from
intersection of Tauwhare Road.
• Taihua Street –
Surface flooding, drive with caution.
• Annebrook Road
– Surface flooding, drive with caution.
• Ohautira
Road – Down to one lane in isolated sections due to slips
and expected to remain so until further notice.
• Richardson Road – A culvert has been washed out,
access restricted to residents only.
Contractors are out across the district working to clear the roads, and signage is in place to warn motorists.
“We are regularly monitoring the district’s roading network, and working to ensure that roads are cleared as fast as possible,” Waikato District Council general manager of Roading and Projects Ian Gooden said.
