Swabbing of water mains about to begin for another year
Every year the Palmerston North City Council cleans the city’s trunk water mains in a bid to reduce the likelihood of discoloured water making its way in to residents’ homes. This process is called swabbing.
The work is weather dependent and needs to be carried out when the Manawatū River flow rate reaches a certain level. The swabbing is scheduled during the winter months when river levels are highest.
The Council intends to start swabbing next Wednesday 1 August or Thursday 2 August 2012 subject to rainfall and river level. The swabbing process will occur during the evening and early morning hours when demand is low.
Some residents may experience discoloured water during the swabbing process and up to 48 hours following. If people do experience discoloured water they should run their cold water taps for 10 - 20 minutes. If it doesn’t clear they can contact the Council on 356 8199.
