Get Into The Olympic Spirit With The Palms
It only happens once every four years and the Olympic madness has already set in. The Palms Shopping Centre has been selected as Christchurch’s official Olympic Live Site for the London 2012 Olympic Games and is inviting locals to get in on the action.
Situated outside Kmart, the Live Site will show live and delayed coverage of Olympic events between 28 July and 12 August. The purpose built area will be equipped with bean bags and four large screens to capture all the action.
The Palms Shopping Centre Manager Simon Carter cannot wait for the games to begin and share in the excitement with shoppers and retailers in-centre. “The whole centre is really looking forward to the games. We are hoping for a festival feel here and are encouraging everyone to come down with friends and family to enjoy the action.
“The Live Site will also give people an area to gather together to watch friends, loved ones and their sporting heroes compete for Olympic glory.”
During the Olympic period, the centre will host a range of daily activities in conjunction with Sport Canterbury and the New Zealand Institute of Sport. Activities such as rowing machine races, Xbox games and boxing with oversized gloves will take place. All who participate in the many planned activities or simply spend $50 or more at The Palms will have the chance to win one of 15 Olympic Team items signed by a member of the London 2012 New Zealand Olympic Team.
As part of a national road show, the Samsung Experience Truck will be stationed at the centre between 8 and 12 August. Inside the truck, visitors can walk through the history of and learn everything they need to know about the Olympic Games. The truck will be located in the Arena car park at The Palms and is well worth a visit.
To further celebrate and spread the Olympic excitement, two deserving children will win lunch with an Olympian on 24 August. To nominate a student, school principals and sport coaches have been asked to write a brief description of the nominee’s passion for sport and Olympic potential, along with their name and contact details. Entries can be sent to info@ampthepalms.co.nz and must be received by Friday 3rd August. The competition is open to all school ages.
