Two missions for Welington Westpac Rescue Helicopter

A Life Flight Trust team responded to two missions in the Wellington region this afternoon.

The Wellington-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter, with a Wellington Free Ambulance paramedic onboard, responded to a woman who suffered from a severe asthma attack while horseback riding in Wainuiomata at 1250 this afternoon. The Wellington woman was treated by ambulance officers at the scene and then flown to the Wellington Hospital Emergency Department in a stable condition. She is expected to be released from hospital this evening.

At 3:40 this afternoon the same team responded aboard the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Belmont Regional Park near Porirua where a 39 year old Raumati South man injured his ankle while out for a walk with his family. The team was prepared for a winch mission but was able to land near the injured man. After stabilizing the man’s ankle he was assisted to the helicopter and flown to the Wellington Hospital Emergency Department where he is currently being assessed and treated.

The Life Flight Trust is a charity providing air rescue and air ambulance services. It operates the Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter and a national air ambulance service. It relies on support from the public and sponsorship from partners such as Westpac to provide these services. Further information can be obtained from www.lifeflight.org.nz
