The State Of Our Environment | August 2012

The State Of Our Environment | August 2012

Hooray!! That’s winter over and an unsettled one at that. August carried on much as July ended – rather wet. Unsurprisingly river and groundwater levels as well as soil moisture are all higher than usual for the time of year but now that the spring-time gusty westerlies have kicked in we might get a chance to dry out. NIWA’s forecast suggests not for long however. Despite a random volcanic ash fall we had a great result for air quality last month and for winter generally. No exceedances of the air quality standard in August meant the winter tally for Napier (0) and Hastings (10) was the lowest since monitoring began. Long may this improving trend continue!
