Planting day at Titoki Reserve this weekend

Staff from Palmerston North City Council together with Ricoh Palmerston North will spend this Sunday planting eco-sourced native trees as part of the Green Corridors project.

Those interested in participating should meet on Sunday at the Lower Titoki Extension Block on Anne Place off Cashmere Drive at 9.30am. Please bring a spade and appropriate footwear, planting is expecting to finish around 12:30pm.

Green Corridors is a voluntary group who work with PNCC to plan and administer the planting of reserve areas and private land in order to encourage native biodiversity.

The group aims to build areas of native vegetation using native plants propagated from within the Manawatū area along streams to aid water quality, open green spaces and improve the habitat for local wildlife.

Planting offers local individuals, businesses or organisations an opportunity to offset their carbon emissions while enhancing the ecological and recreational features in the region.

Daniel Batley Green Corridors project officer said increasing planting around the City and actively promoting biodiversity are key sub-drivers within the Palmerston North Sustainable City Strategy.

“Planting days are important and are held on a regular basis with members of the public more than welcome to help.” Daniel said. “They are held throughout the year and if you would like to become involved, please contact Eddie Welsh on 353 2904.”
