McKenzie Pool
redevelopment enters design stage
The $2.2 million redevelopment of Petone’s McKenzie Pool is currently in the detailed design stage with documents being prepared by designers LHT Design Ltd in order to submit a resource application to Hutt City Council in November 2012.
To allow the redevelopment work to be successfully completed, McKenzie Pool will not be open this summer. “Commencing construction in summer limits disruption due to weather and allows sufficient time for a planned reopening in November 2013 for a full season.” says Hutt City Council’s recreation facilities manager Stephen Keatley. “The alternative was to have the redevelopment effect two seasons which wasn’t ideal for pool users”
Council has been working with affected schools and the Petone Swimming Club to assist them to maintain their programmes for the coming season at other pools around the city. Council’s other five pools in its network offer great options for the people of Petone to continue swimming over the summer months.
“While we know it is inconvenient for the pool to be closed this year the end result is that the community will have a great new modern facility for the 2013-14 season” says Mayor Ray Wallace.
