Wellington Free Ambulance street appeal smashes previous records
Wellington Free Ambulance is delighted and incredibly grateful that last week’s street appeal for its unique ambulance service has beaten all previous records.
Collectors were out in Wellington, Kapiti and the Wairarapa taking in a total of $86,496.80. WFA Executive Manager – Fundraising, David Baker says donations are still pouring in and it is likely the appeal total will reach $100,000.
“We are absolutely stunned at the generosity of people living in these three areas. This is an awesome result; more than double the total of last year’s street appeal. We are incredibly grateful to both the public and the volunteer collectors who gave up their time to help Wellington Free Ambulance.”
WFA is the only free ambulance service in the country and it relies heavily on the generosity of the public to fund a $4 million shortfall in government funding. Ambulances in all other areas in New Zealand charge the public for their service.
“The success of this year’s street appeal shows the incredible depth of support and pride in the service from people living in Wellington, Kapiti and the Wairarapa. We can’t thank everyone enough!” says Mr Baker.
