Board on Right Path for Kaipatiki Walking Network

Better walking and cycling routes are a step closer after the Kaipatiki Local Board adopted the Kaipatiki Connections Network Plan and endorsed its implementation yesterday (Wednesday 26 September).

Kaipatiki Local Board set aside $18,000 last year to put this plan together with $3.8 million budgeted over the next 10 years to improve the networks around Kaipatiki.

Chair of the Kaipatiki Local Board, Lindsay Waugh, says the plan’s adoption is a major step toward achieving this priority in the Local Board Plan.

”The connections outlined in this plan are our contribution to making Auckland the world’s most liveable city, and ensuring the area can be enjoyed by generations to come.

“I would like to acknowledge the work of volunteers, community groups, Auckland Council staff, and local board members Grant and John Gillon. Everyone worked together on the development of this plan,” she says.

Grant Gillon says the plan is a starting point in providing better access between parks, town centres and public transport facilities for the community.

“The draft plan identifies current and future walking and cycling routes to improve the links within, and between, parks and open spaces, as well as connecting the local board area to neighbouring Devonport-Takapuna and Upper Harbour.

“We believe this network of connections will create a sense of community and improve accessibility to our unique coastlines and bush reserves,” says Mr Gillon.
