One person dead after crash near Canvastown

A 58 year old Marlborough man died following a crash on State Highway 6 near Canvastown about 6pm on Tuesday.

The car the man was in was travelling towards Canvastown with three occupants when it appears to have veered off the road and crashed into a bank.

The deceased was a rear seat passenger and police believe he was thrown from the vehicle in the crash. He died at the scene.

A 60 year old man who was the front passenger was airlifted to hospital.

The 43 year old female driver suffered only minor injuries.

An investigation is under way by the Blenheim CIB and a Serious Crash Investigator to determine the cause of the crash.

The name of the deceased will not be released until next of kin have been informed.
