Mayor Urges Aucklanders To Have Their Say

The Mayor is encouraging Aucklanders to have their say on the future of public transport in the new Auckland.

The transformation of our current complex mix of public transport services into an easy to understand Auckland-wide network of connected, reliable and frequent services is a key proposal of the Auckland Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP) out today.

The Mayor describes the draft plan as an exciting document. “The plan revolutionises the way public transport will be delivered to Aucklanders,” says Len Brown. “It makes public transport simple, it reduces waiting times and it provides a network of services at least every 15 minutes from 7am to 7pm, seven days a week.”

The Mayor says an efficient, people-friendly transport system is crucial for achieving his vision for Auckland to be the world’s most liveable city by 2041.

“This Plan aims to double public transport usage from 70 million trips a year to 140 million by 2022 – that’s exciting and very do-able.

“Patronage figures are already exceeding targets, integrated ticketing is on the way and, by this time next year, we will have rail electrification and the first of the new electric trains will be here.

“I want Aucklanders to get behind this Draft Plan and to check out what it means for them. This is your chance to have your say on the future of our city.”

The consultation period opened today, and people have until 4pm Monday 5 November 2012 to provide feedback.
