New and improved Christmas Festival to light up heart of Whangarei
It’s a different day, a different date, a different place, but it’s going to be the same great, fun-filled, family event – Whangarei’s Christmas Festival!
This year it is going to be held on Saturday 15 December at Toll Stadium from 5.30pm. Gates Open at 4.30pm.
“We’ve moved our incredibly popular Christmas Festival from Thursday to Saturday so it’s not on a school night, and to make it easier for people from across the region to attend,” said Venues and Events Whangarei Marketing and Events Manager Rachel O’Gorman.
“On a Saturday families will have more time to get into Whangarei, take a stroll around the Town Basin, do some shopping, wander down and see progress on the new river crossing, and enjoy following Tane the Taniwha’s footprints in the walk up to the stadium.
“It’s just a great opportunity to throw it open to even more people and really amp up the atmosphere of an event that’s already amazingly successful.”
Ms O’Gorman said a highlight of the day will be the performance by band Midnight Youth at the end of the night.
“We will also have entertainment by Furious 3, Northland’s dynamic Trio; the Whangarei Primary School Choir; Talent Search winners; Elvis and the Whangarei Rock ‘n’ Roll Club, the Fantasy Cheerleaders, the Northland Youth Theatre and more.
“Santa will put in a very welcome appearance, and there will be a fireworks display too.
“For the second year running we are working with the Salvation Army to collect gifts and non perishable Christmas food items to contribute towards their Christmas Hamper Day. Feel free to bring a gift along to the Christmas Festival to put under the giant Christmas Tree which will be enjoyed by someone else in the community in need,” Ms O’Gorman said.
“Another innovation this year is the Christmas Corporate Party in one of the lounges. We are inviting businesses organising Christmas functions to consider booking a table for eight at the Christmas Festival including dinner and the show. To book or find out more email events@wdc.govt.nz.”
“We want to make sure the crowd don’t go hungry either, so we are calling for expressions of interest from food vendors now too.”
