Wellbeing already boosted

The Wellbeing Game has begun and already Cantabrian’s have logged almost 2800 hours of wellbeing.

Michelle Whitaker from Healthy Christchurch says nearly 680 players have registered and more than 100 teams have been established.

“We’re delighted with the take up so far. Some of our largest employers, including the Canterbury DHB, Air New Zealand, Christchurch City Council and Environment Canterbury, have embraced the game, as have a number of NGOs. Overall people from more than 50 organisations have registered,” Michelle says.

“The Wellbeing Game has been built right here in Christchurch, and it is great to see such a great uptake. We have all been through so much and have a long way to go. Playing the Wellbeing Game is a great and fun way for each of us to be reminded how to look after ourselves and stay strong.”

Ciaran Fox from the Mental Health Foundation says people and teams can join in at anytime.

“The game officially started but it’s not too late to register. You can register anytime during the game, and if you start later you can always enter things retrospectively. The main thing is that you take part and start thinking about the things you already do, and things you can do differently, to improve your wellbeing,” Ciaran says.

“If you haven’t registered yet then join in the fun. It’s the first step to becoming more mindful of what really matters.”

The game is based around the ‘five ways to wellbeing’, which are connect, take notice, give, keep learning and be active. These are based on research undertaken by the New Economics Foundation (NEF) for the British government’s Foresight Project. The research was drawn from the inter-disciplinary work of more than 400 scientists from across the world.
