Ngaruawahia Library Ready For Reopening
Waikato District Council is gearing up to celebrate the reopening of its Ngaruawahia Library and would like you to be a part of the occasion.
The reopening of the library will take place on Saturday, 27 October 2012 at 9am followed by a public open day.
The festivities will run until 12.30pm and will include fun activities such as free face painting and chalk drawing with prizes up for grabs.
Stakeholder Relations general manager Jo Ireland said the reopening would be an exciting day for both council staff and Ngaruawahia residents.
“The library plays such a pivotal role in the community so it’s going to be great to have the full service back up and running.”
The
library building in Jesmond Street was closed for safety
reasons in April, after a structural engineer’s report
identified it as being at risk of collapse in a moderate
earthquake.
Extensive bracing work has since been carried
out, with three external walls reinforced to ensure the
building is no longer at risk in the event of an
earthquake.
The internal walls have also received a fresh coat of paint and the space has undergone a general spruce up.
Ms Ireland said the library was looking great and encouraged everyone to head along to the reopening to check it out.
The return to the Jesmond Street building is expected to be a temporary move, with the council to undertake a consultation process with the Ngaruawahia community about long-term options for the library.
The temporary library facility which has been operating out of the council’s head office in Ngaruawahia will continue to offer library services until the reopening. Free internet access will also continue from Computer Consultancy, 29 Jesmond Street until the library opens.
