Lower Hutt siren test Thursday 1 November at 10:10am

HUTT CITY COUNCIL NEWS RELEASE
26 October 2012

Lower Hutt siren test Thursday 1 November at 10:10am

Civil defence sirens in Lower Hutt will be tested on Thursday 1 November at 10:10am.

The sirens will sound for 2 minutes. When the sirens are used in an emergency, they will sound continuously for a longer period of time.
Senior emergency management advisor Dave Jack says the sirens are an alert that an emergency civil defence event is developing.

“We test the sirens annually to help Lower Hutt residents become familiar with the siren sound and the actions they should take in an emergency.

“When we test the sirens on Thursday we want people to tune in to their local radio station or visit www.huttcity.govt.nz as in an emergency this is where more information will be found.

“We also want people to tell us if they hear the siren test and they can do this by filling in an online survey at www.huttcity.govt.nz. The website also has useful information about getting prepared for an emergency.”

Radio stations to listen to are:
Classic Hits 90.1FM
Newstalk ZB 1035 AM

The Breeze 94.1 FM, 98.5 FM
