New wastewater system for 700 households in Christchurch
Open Day at The Palms Saturday, 27 October, new wastewater system for 700 households about to be rolled out Dallington/ Shirley
The earthquakes caused significant damage to the wastewater network in the Shirley/ Dallington area. As a result, a new vacuum wastewater system is proposed to improve the resilience of the network.
SCIRT, along with McConnell Dowell, will be installing a new vacuum wastewater system and pump station for this area. A vacuum system uses air pressure (a vacuum), rather than gravity, to transport wastewater through the pipes from collection chambers in street berms to the vacuum pumping station. The system requires a new vacuum pump station. This will be in the same location as the existing gravity pump station on the corner of New Brighton Road and Golf Links Road.
Around 700 households will be getting vacuum wastewater systems in Shirley/ Dallington. Newsletters have been distributed to these homes in recent days with an invitation to the Open Day this weekend.
This will be on The Palms’ ground floor by K-Mart, Saturday 27 October 2012 between 10am and 2pm. Key team members from SCIRT and McConnell Dowell will be there to talk about the project and answer questions.
The display will be in The Palms for the next few months.
At a household level, people will not notice any difference in how their wastewater system works. The existing gravity line will continue to transport wastewater from the home to the collection chamber in the street berm.
