Mangere Community Kennel Building Competition
Mangere Community Kennel Building Competition
SPCA Auckland is inviting 20 Mangere families to the Animal Village for a fun Kennel Building Competition on Saturday 3 November from 11am to 3.30pm.
The event also kicks off the SPCA Auckland Paws Appeal Week which runs from 3 to 11 November and aims this year to raise $200,000 to help protect Auckland’s animals in need.
Bunnings has donated 20 dog kennel kitsets to the competition so the participating families can build their own kennels (with assistance from on-the-spot experts) and then decorate them. The family that makes the best kennel will win passes to Rainbows End along with wonderful extra treats for their dog including toys, collar, lead, bowls, bed, etc.
The other families won’t go away empty-handed however: each will take home their kennel along with a care package for their dog including dog food, flea treatments, worm treatments, dog treats, and a voucher for de-sexing their dog if it’s not already de-sexed.
“This is us reaching out to the local community to raise awareness about our work protecting animals and to help local families provide better shelter for their dogs,” says Christine Kalin, SPCA Auckland CEO.
“Taking care of a dog is a big task – bigger than many people realise. Providing a weather-proof doghouse is essential for the health and wellbeing of the animal, but not every family is aware of this.
“We’re really looking forward to hosting these families and giving them a fun day out. Our expert dog trainer will be on hand to provide dog training tips and our inspectors will talk about what a dog needs to be happy and healthy.
“And we would like to shout out to all Aucklanders to look out for our collectors from Friday the 9th to Sunday the 11th or donate online at www.spca.org.nz.”
