HBRC pollution hotline and buses in action over holidays
Hawke’s Bay Regional Council’s emergency and pollution hotline will operate as usual while the council offices are closed, but there are timetable differences for the goBay buses on public holidays.
“Even when our offices are closed, please call us on the hotline if you see any water, land or coastal pollution that needs attention, or any other emergency where our help may be needed,” says Drew Broadley, Community Engagement and Communication Manager.
The pollution hotline number is 06 835 9200 or 0800 108 838 and is staffed 24 hours/7 days. This number is also in the phone book and on the Council’s website www.hbrc.govt.nz.
The website also has information on water quality at popular swimming beaches (or phone the 0800 B4U Swim hotline), and the latest weather, wave and other data coming in from the new HAWQi coastal buoy that was put in the sea off Tangoio last week.
Bus timetable information is also on the website so people can check the timetables on public holidays. The goBay bus service will run to Saturday timetables on Boxing Day, New Year’s Day (1 January) and Wednesday 2 January, but on Christmas Day there will be no bus services.
“Apart from these statutory public holidays, services will run as normal over the rest of the holidays so people can get to town or visit friends by bus – you can even get to the beach for a swim using the Westshore-Ahuriri Hopper service,” says Transport manager, Carol Gilbertson.
Hawke’s Bay Regional Council’s main office in Dalton Street, Napier, plus offices in Waipawa and Wairoa, will close for the holidays at 3.00pm, Monday 24 December and re-open at 8.00am, Thursday 3 January 2013. The Operations Group office in Guppy Road, Taradale, will close at 11 am Friday 21 December and reopen at 8.00am Monday 7 January 2013.
