Council adds Facebook and Twitter to communication channels
Rotorua residents and people from anywhere in the world can now connect with Rotorua District Council (RDC) through Facebook and Twitter.
The council’s new Facebook and Twitter corporate sites come hot-on-the-heels of the introduction of texting as a communication channel for the local community to use when engaging with the council.
RDC Corporate & Customer Services group manager Jean-Paul Gaston said the council developed Facebook and Twitter accounts to further raise awareness of council activities, new information, city projects, and for use when consulting with the community.
“RDC is always keen to move with the times and social networking is already an established and popular means of communication. Opening up Facebook and Twitter accounts for general council activity was a logical next step for communicating effectively with our diverse communities.
“We’re encouraging local residents to ‘like’ our page and to keep up-to-date on news items, city maintenance programmes, street closures, photos, and much more.”
Rotorua District Council already has established Facebook and Twitter sites dedicated for a number of discrete council functions including Events & Venues, Rotorua District Library, Rotorua Museum, Destination Rotorua Marketing and Economic Projects. There are also Facebook pages for The Redwoods and the Aquatic Centre and Treasure Rotorua.
