West Coast Children to benefit from Countdown Kids Appeal

Media Release

18 December 2012

West Coast Children to benefit from Countdown Kids Appeal

West Coast children will benefit from new equipment as a result of the generosity displayed by New Zealanders through the Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal.

In a short ceremony at Greymouth Countdown, Ruth Krippner, Chair of the Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal handed Dot O’Connor, Clinical Nurse Manager Paediatrics and Linda Monk, midwife a cheque for $56,524 to be used in maternity and children’s health services on the West Coast.

The West Coast DHB has been fortunate to be a recipient of the Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal funding since 2008.

Programme Director of the DHB, Michael Frampton spoke of Countdown’s ongoing commitment to children’s health and the positive role that the funding has in enabling access to state of the art equipment for children in hospital on the West Coast.

Ruth Krippner, Chair of the Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal Trust, recognised the contribution of Countdown staff in Westport and Greymouth and the staff of the DHB in their fundraising efforts and the West Coast community for their generosity to this worthwhile cause.

This year’s national appeal raised $1.22m to be distributed among paediatric hospital wards.

The money received by the West Coast DHB is destined for the purchase of such equipment as an incubator, a bladderscan machine and specialised furniture for the children’s ward.

In addition to the cheque, Ruth Krippner and the Westport and Greymouth Countdown teams also presented boxes of toys for the children’s ward and some knitting for the new babies in Coast maternity wards.
