Charity auction already up to $2600

Media Release – 19 December 2013

Charity auction already up to $2600

The generous donation of a signed replica 2011 Rugby World Cup All Black jersey for auction has already raised $2600 for the Christchurch City Mission’s Xmas Lunch fund, with a day left to go.

Shilton and Brown Demolition director Jim Shilton donated the jersey which he had bought at an earlier charity event. It was originally donated by Steve Hansen, the All Blacks coach. It is being auctioned on TradeMe and has already attracted a bid of $2600. The auction closes at 4pm tomorrow and the winner must pay for the jersey on Friday to ensure the funds can be used to purchase supplies for the Christmas lunch.

TradeMe has waived its usual fees to ensure all of the funds go directly to the Mission. Other city contractors, Wards Demolition, Protranz Earthmoving and Ceres Environmental, are also working hard to attract donations for the City Mission by dressing up their equipment in Christmas paraphernalia.

Christchurch residents have been viewing the contractors’ efforts on the corner of Gloucester and Colombo streets, and dropping donations of food to defence staff at the Red Zone cordon office nearby as a way of “payment” for then being able to vote for their favourite on the press.co.nz poll.

Smith Crane and Construction has also made a generous contribution to the City Mission lunch by donating five hams and several sacks of potatoes.

Tonight is the last night the equipment will be on display and so far 222 people have voted online. The winning contractor will be announced tomorrow and The Press will donate up to $300 to match the number of votes made.

The rugby jersey auction can be seen on TradeMe, under sports memorabilia, or here: http://www.trademe.co.nz/sports/sports-memorabilia/rugby-union/jerseys/auction-544498438.htm
