Lakes Leisure Organisational Review Update
Organisational Review Update Media Release - Friday 1 March 2013
Queenstown Lakes District Council
Mayor Vanessa van Uden today advised that, Council has
agreed to extend its organisational review to all the
operations of Lakes Leisure Limited.
Initially the
review, which commenced in February, encompassed only the
back-office functions of Lakes Leisure, all QLDC staff and
Lakes Environmental.
“The review team has concluded that in order to get a complete picture of the services the Council delivers and the opportunities for efficiencies and improving effectiveness, it makes sense to consider both the community services within Council and those delivered by Lakes Leisure,” Mayor van Uden said.
As with Lakes Environmental, the Council Controlled Organisation (CCO) model for Lakes Leisure has now been operational for over five years.
“It has become apparent through the process we are currently undertaking that it is timely to not only review all aligned Council operations but to also consider alternatives for service delivery,” Mayor van Uden said.
As the sole shareholder of Lakes Leisure, QLDC had advised the CCO’s board of and requested support for the review.
The review is being chaired by Peter Winder, formerly Chief Executive of both Local Government NZ and the Auckland Regional Council.
The review team was expected to provide staff and Council with a draft report and recommendations by the beginning of April.
