NETWORK SUMMARY for week ending 3 March 2013

ELECTRICITY
There were an extraordinary number of fires across Auckland during the week. Crews attended 11 house fires including an incident resulting from a fuse box that ignited.

There were also six cases of lines down (one possibly caused by a rubbish truck) and in Grafton an underground cable fault caused an outage affecting a small number of customers. Crews repaired the damage and restored the power.

Our electrical response crews attended six car vs poles during the week.

A transformer caught fire after an underground cable was damaged in South Howick causing an outage affecting 1,905 customers. Crews made the area safe and power was restored.

In New Lynn, a switch unit was hit by a contractor who was water-blasting, causing it to blow, resulting in an outage affecting 42 customers. Full restoration to the area was arranged using generators.

GAS TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION
There were three third party strikes on our network last week.

Please take care around our gas network and call 0508 B4 U WORK (248 967) or 0800 B4 U DIG if outside Auckland.

Vector’s work is finishing up on the North Shore’s Glenfield Road with some minor sections being completed over the next week. Vector has been relocating electricity, gas and fibre networks along Glenfield Road as part of a wider upgrading project being managed by Auckland Council.

Break time at Vector Arena
School children from North Shore’s Onepoto Primary, Henderson North Primary School, Papatoetoe East Primary School and Matipo Primary School in Te Atatu got to meet their hometown heroes The Breakers, at Vector Arena, on the day of their big match (Thursday Feb 28).

More than 120 children were treated to a training session with The Breakers coach where they were put through their paces with press ups and passes.

They got front row seats in the Vector Arena to watch the team practise for their game against the Adelaide 36ers that evening.

The programme is part of Vector’s commitment to the community and giving children in the region the opportunity to share in enjoying the country’s leading concert and sports venue.

Fibre
Vector Communications have built new points of presence (PoPs) in New Plymouth, Napier/Hastings, Hamilton and Tauranga. They complement existing PoPs in Wellington, Christchurch and of course Auckland. PoPs are equipment that enables us to distribute telecommunications data as far as possible on our own network, before we have to use another network provider. This enables us to provide better pricing to our customers and utilise our network asset.

Vector Communications now has extensive nationwide coverage, enabling service providers to reach their customers around New Zealand easily on a single service platform.
