An Easter Weekend on the Buses for the Dogs

- MEDIA RELEASE - Tuesday, 12 March 2013

An Easter Weekend on the Buses for the Dogs

With a great response and support from the local community for operating the
St. Clair – Normanby service for the past 2 years, the Otago Heritage Bus
Society are running this successful service once again this Easter weekend,
on Good Friday and Easter Sunday, and this time, passengers' dogs will be
welcomed on to the buses.

"A few passengers were invited to bring their dogs on our Christmas service,"
Philip Riley, chairman of the society said. "They and their dogs were well
behaved and left no mess, creating a happy and friendly atmosphere on
board."

The weekend will also see the resurrection of bus services to three more
suburbs not been served on these holidays for over 3 decades: St Kilda,
Brockville and Halfway Bush. With the additional route we have named our
Suburban Rumbler public holiday bus service revival days,

“On three days each year, Dunedin is not covered by the Otago Regional
Council's integrated network of Gobus services. We have a passion for public
transport, and we want to serve the widest possible portion of Dunedin’s
community since we now have more than one operational bus,” Philip said.

“We are keen to work alongside some local attractions and businesses along
each of the routes,” said Andrew Robinson, Society Operations Manager.

“One Dunedin attraction on the St. Kilda – Brockville / Halfway Bush route is
the Chancarla Farm Park in Halfway Bush. Passengers will have a chance to
visit this unique Dunedin attraction on both Good Friday and Easter Sunday."
The Brockville-Halfway Bush route will also serve the Dunedin Dog Park at
the corner of Wakari Rd and Taieri Rd.

Proceeds from the Suburban Rumbler services will go back into restorations
and operations of the Otago Heritage Bus Society to further benefit the
community, including bringing Dunedin’s first trolleybus back to the city and
restoration work on two Dunedin-built earlier-model Leyland Leopards.
