Registrations
Still Open for “Bring the Keg Back to the Brewery Race”
Registrations are still open for this Sunday’s
“Bring the Keg Back to the Brewery” race at
Mangatainoka.
Event manager Phil Wilson says 10 teams have registered to date for the second running of the 8km fun run being held on Sunday, March 24th 2013. He says a mixture of social and sport teams with between five and 10 runners each will carry an empty keg for 8kms over farmland and varying terrain – including a river crossing through the Mangatainoka River and under the bridge - before returning the keg to Tui Brewery.
“Teams are a mixture of social and sport and we also have some fit rugby boys entered. To date we’ve also two teams entered from Palmerston North entered as well,” says Phil. “it’s going to be fun. I am looking forward to it.”
Last year’s winning team made up of dairy farmers and agricultural workers from the Wairarapa and Tararua districts have already made their intentions clear about defending the title. Team leader Greg Archibald says despite having a new line-up for this year’s race, they would work hard to keep the title.
“We know there are some strong teams entering from around the region, but hopefully our local knowledge will pay dividends,” he says.
Teams will be spurred to cross the finish line for two reasons. Firstly all funds raised from the entry fee will go to Pahiatua On Track, a local group fundraising for the community and secondly, there is a $1000 grand prize for first team overall. In addition there will be trophies awarded to the first business team, first community team and first sports team across the line.
“Bring the Keg Back to the Brewery” is part of Tui Brewery’s Summer Series 2013 and follows the sold-out Super Rugby pre-season game between the Hurricanes and the Chiefs which attracted rugby fans as far afield as America and Fiji and last weekend’s Toki Golf Open. Upcoming events include Tunes Under the Tower (March 24), Tui Truck Stop Show and Shine (April 27) and Tunes Under the Tower (April 28).
People interested in completing the second running of the 8km “Bring the Keg Back to the Brewery” race can enter three ways. They can email phil@propertybrokers.co.nz, via www.tuibrewery.co.nz to download an entry form or pick up an entry form from Tui HQ in Mangatainoka
