Marmite hits the shelves with Buck Shelford lending a hand

Marmite is back and legendary All Black, Buck Shelford will be on hand to help spread the Kiwi favourite on customers toast from 7.30am – 9.00am tomorrow 20 March at New World Northwood, Christchurch.

Foodstuffs is thrilled to announce that Marmite will be back in all of its New World, PAK’nSAVE and Four Square stores from Wednesday 20 March. Steve Anderson, Managing Director, Foodstuffs New Zealand said it was appropriate that such an iconic Kiwi brand should be welcomed back by one of New Zealand’s greatest ever All Blacks and sporting legend, Buck Shelford.

Being a staunch Marmite lover and proud Cantabrian, Anderson says that it’s great to see that Sanitarium have been able to rebuild their Christchurch factory and resume production of the ‘black gold’.

“It’s been a long time coming but we are thrilled to be able to put Marmite back on the shelves for our customers. We expect a bit of a rush, but I would ask customers to try and remember all Marmite lovers would like to get a jar, so go easy, Sanitarium will keep itcoming, there is no need to panic.”

Anderson recognises the hard work Sanitarium has put into getting Marmite back out to customers. “We know it was no easy task, especially as the business was faced with significant issues post-earthquake. But Sanitarium’s commitment to resuming production as soon as possible has been a real credit to both the company and individuals involved at the factory.”

Sanitarium’s General Manager, Pierre van Heerden is delighted that the country’s most beloved spread will be back on Kiwis toast from Wednesday.

“We have worked hard to make sure that every Kiwi can have a tub of Marmite back in their pantries before Easter,” says van Heerden.

“Staff at the factory have worked tirelessly for months to make sure we can meet the country’s demands for their favourite spread,” he says. "The process for producing Marmite isn't easy, due to the blending requirements and the need to get all the yeasts right. As the saying goes, good things take time.”

“And what better way to welcome Marmite back than to have the iconic Buck Shelford on hand to give the people of Christchurch a piece of toast with the black gold. So I would encourage Marmite lovers to come down to New World Northwood to re-stock their pantries and join in the store’s celebration of the brand’s return,” concludes van Heerden.
