Get your consents online

NEWS RELEASE

Get your consents online
Hutt City Council is offering an online building and resource consents service – the first local authority in the greater Wellington region to do so.

“Lodging applications for building and resource consents online saves people time, resource and money,” says Manager Environmental Consents Helen Oram.

“It’s another way Hutt City Council is making it easier for people to access our services.”

Within days of the online service being offered, more than 30 applications were lodged online for resource and building consents.

Council recently launched a system that allows people to receive property information via email, and more and more services will become available digitally, says Helen. Other areas being looked at for online application or delivery include plumbing and drainage plans, building warrants of fitness and LIMs.

“We’re all busy people – the more we can do online the better. For example, since we started offering property information via email, the demand for hard copies is now almost nil.”

Council also recently started offering a fast-track building consent process for heating units/fireplaces, simple garages, minor plumbing and drainage work, and demolition/removal of buildings. Fast-track applications are dealt with in five days or less.
