Cordon reduction opens up further access to CBD
A reduction tomorrow in the Rebuild Zone cordon will allow increased access into central Christchurch, including Avonmore Tertiary Institute for its opening to students on Tuesday.
From about 5pm the CBD cordon will be reduced on Hereford Street, west of the Colombo Street intersection, and the Triangle Centre area and upper section of High Street, where the new premises of the tertiary institute are based.
The institute sought to be removed from the Rebuild Zone to enable its students to access the facility from next week.
The change is one in a series of reductions to the cordon by the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority ahead of the entire Rebuild Zone cordon being lifted by the end of June. After the full cordon is lifted, fencing will remain around sites where demolition, construction or infrastructure work is being carried out.
A further reduction is expected late next week when CERA, working with the Christchurch City Council, intends to remove the section of Colombo Street between Hereford Street and Lichfield Street from the Rebuild Zone.
