Rescue Emergency Support Team looking for new
recruits
The Palmerston North Rescue Emergency Support Team (REST) is now looking to recruit new members.
REST is made up of volunteers and operates under the supervision of Palmerston North City Council Emergency Management. The main role of REST is to support emergency rescue services locally, within the Manawatū and when they’re called upon, nationally. Occasionally they provide support to the Rural Fire Team and can help in urban search and rescue. Team members are trained in high angle rope rescue, flood and storm response and swift water rescue.
Emergency management officer Graeme McIntyre says Palmerston North’s team is recognised as one of the best in the country and have collected numerous awards.
Prospective applicants will need to be committed and dedicated, be able to provide rescue support for at least 80 hours per year. Applicants will also be required to train weekly and often on weekends and complete NZQA National Certificates, Tertiary Certificates and up to five industry certificates in Rescue.
The recruitment course which is compulsory for all new members will start on the evening of 3rd May to 5th May 2013.
