Youth Card offers young people support, advice and discounts
ROTORUA 05.04.13: A newly developed Rotorua Youth Card has been released for local young people between the ages of 11 and 18.
Rotorua District Council’s youth projects officer Jill Campbell said the credit card-sized 2013 youth card provides information about a range of local services available to help young people.
“The youth card identifies places where older kids and teenagers can chill out and also gives them useful contact details for legal, health, employment, training, transport and counselling services.
“It also offers discounts from many local retail outlets, including deals from food, recreation, clothing and entertainment stores.”
Ms Campbell said while the primary purpose of the card was to ensure young people had good access to information on local support services, the discounts added a great incentive for youth to keep the card handy where ever they go.
“Last year Rotorua District Council completed a youth policy review with 530 young people participating in a survey. Survey results revealed that 75 per cent of participants had received the 2012 Youth Card, with a very high 90 per cent of them taking advantage of the discounts offered on the card.
“Our district’s young people are much safer when they’re connected to the community, so having sound support information at their fingertips by way of a funky little wallet-sized card, helps keeps them in touch and engaged with what our city has to offer.”
The 2013 Rotorua Youth Card is available from schools, Rotorua Library, and youth-based organisations.
