Brancott Estate Sauvignon Blanc
recognised by Wine Spectator
The pioneers
of the original Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc continue to
impress the world, with Brancott Estate Marlborough
Sauvignon Blanc 2012 receiving a rating of 89 points in the
May 2013 issue of renowned US magazine Wine
Spectator.
In rating Brancott Estate
Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2012, Wine Spectator described
the wine as follows: “The spicy quince and Asian pear
flavors rest on a crisp, juicy body, with plenty of lime
zest and grapefruit notes, especially on the finish. Drink
now.”
Wine Spectator is the foremost authority of wine in the US and its editors review more than 15,000 wines from around the world each year in blind tastings. Ratings reflect how highly judges regard each wine relative to other wines. Wines ranked between 85 and 89 are considered “very good” and “a wine with special qualities”.
Patrick Materman, chief winemaker at Brancott Estate is thrilled with the rating. “It’s almost 40 years since we pioneered the Marlborough wine region and, while we continue to explore other varietals, we remain passionate about Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc” said Patrick. “We strive for the highest quality across all of our products and seeing our most accessible Sauvignon Blanc recognised reassures us that we are achieving this goal.”
Brancott Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2012 can be matched with grilled oysters, barbecued prawns, poached white fish and fresh green salads containing parsley, pepper or lemon. Mediterranean and Turkish dishes with hummus, olives and feta will also match well. Though made to drink while young and vivacious, this wine may be cellared for up to three years to develop further complexity.
Brancott Estate Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2012 is widely available from leading liquor retailers, RRP $26.99.
NOTES TO EDITORS - About
Brancott Estate
BRANCOTT ESTATETM. Honouring
our Marlborough heritage, Brancott Estate wines take their
name from our cherished Brancott Vineyard, home of the
original Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc; one of the world’s
favourite New Zealand wine styles. In 1973, Brancott
Vineyard was planted with grapes, a decision that went
against the popular opinion of the time that the South
Island was too cold to grow grapes. In 1975, Brancott
Vineyard was planted with the first Sauvignon Blanc grapes
in Marlborough. This pioneering determination and skill of
our winemakers and viticulturists continues to be evident in
every bottle, as is the care and respect for the land that
allow us to produce each and every one. Brancott Estate
wines are sourced from multiple vineyards.
BRANCOTT ESTATETM is committed
to sustainable practices and is a founding member of New
Zealand’s original sustainable winegrowing initiative
established in 1995. This programme has since transformed
into Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ). All
vineyards and wineries are accredited under the
scheme.
