ROTORUA 15.04.13: Rotorua District Council wants to know Rotorua residents’ views on the council’s performance and what they think about the services being provided.
Mayor Kevin Winters said it was part of an on-going commitment to actively seek public opinion on how well the council was doing and to identify any areas that might need more attention.
“We have an obligation to track how well our efforts are carrying through to our residents. The best way to do this is for a cross-section of people from across our district to be interviewed, and to have this done by an independent outside organisation to ensure impartiality.”
National Research Bureau (NRB), an independent research company which conducts surveys for a number of local authorities throughout New Zealand, has been commissioned to undertake the survey and report back to the council with their findings.
Mr Winters said those results would be shared with the community once they had been compiled into a formal report.
“The findings from the NRB survey form part of our council’s formal reporting processes and are a critical ingredient in planning for further improvements to delivery of our services. They provide an honest, open and impartial view of what our community thinks about the work we are doing for them.”
Using a recognised randomised selection method, residents throughout the district will be telephoned by NRB personnel, and asked their opinions on the services the council provides to the Rotorua community. The survey is confidential and only the collated results are made available to the council.
Interviewing for the survey commences on Friday 19 April and will continue until Monday 29 April. Results are expected to be released in late July or August.
