Total Fire Ban Lifted in South Taranaki

Total Fire Ban Lifted in South Taranaki

Principal Rural Fire Officer, John Gunn, announced today that the Total Fire Ban that has been in place in all areas of the South Taranaki District will be lifted at Midnight on Sunday 21 April and will be replaced by an Open Fire Season for most of the district.

The only exceptions are the land area under the control of the Eltham Drainage Committee and Department of Conservation (DOC) reserves which have year round Restricted Fire Seasons in place.

Mr Gunn says any person wanting to light a fire within 1km of a DOC reserve must contact DOC.

Residents in the Eltham Drainage Committee area requiring a permit, for which there is no charge, should contact the Council on (06) 278 0555 or toll free 0800 111 323. Please allow at least 24 hours notice so that an inspection can be arranged.
